.
We have confirmed that
Briggs did build some coupe
bodies in 1930 and 1931. I
have received correspondence
and pictures that confirm
these. The total number they
built is not known. The ’30
and ’31 Standard Coupes had
prefix 198, the ’30 and ’31
Deluxe Coupes were 166, and
the ’30 – ’31 Sport Coupes
were 160.
It seems as if Briggs used
both the 140 and 141 prefix
for the 160-A. The 141 was
also used for the Briggs
160-B.
No roadster, standard
phaeton, or tudor sedan has
ever been reported to have
had a body tag.
1930 and ’31 body tags, if
present, are on the firewall
below the data plate. 1928
and ’29 tags are found on
the passenger side door sill
or in front of the front
seat on the passenger’s
side.
Editor’s Note: It has
been brought to my attention
that for the 150A Station
Wagon, a Murray body number
plate was nailed to the
inside seat riser on the
passenger side. For
additional information
consult the MARC Restoration
Guidelines and Judging
Standards, Station Wagon
section.
